Our Training Approach




Kihon
Kihon is "basic", the fundamental aspect of karate that build the foundation of the art. Including essential movements like stances, strikes, kicks, and blocks. Repetitive practice of kihon develops technique, strength, and coordination, and serves as the groundwork for more advanced skills.
Kata
Kata, meaning "form" in Japanese, refers to choreographed patterns of movements practiced solo or in pairs. These sequences teach and refine techniques, stances, and strategies. In karate and other martial arts, kata helps develop technique, coordination, and focus.
Kumite
Kumite literally translated as "grappling hands", which involves applying techniques learned from kihon and kata in a live, dynamic environment, sparring or free fighting between practitioners.
Kumite can be used to develop a particular techniques or skill or it can done in competition.
Bunkai
Bunkai, literally meaning "analysis" or "disassembly", is a term used in Japanese martial arts referring to process of analyzing Kata and extracting fighting techniques from the movements of a kata.
